Drawing Outside

I try to give my students as many different art making experiences as possible. With that in mind, I ordered a classroom set of drawing boards so that my students could create observational drawings outside. I then initiated, for the first time in recent memory, a grade level trip to draw outside at a local park and even on campus.

Students have learned about plein air artists including Claude Monet, as well as Henri Rousseau, famous for his jungle paintings. Using the drawing boards, students have learned that they can create art in many environments and have a chance to do something new for most of them.
