Collaboration

I have initiated collaborative work many times over the course of my career.

Collaboration with Colleagues

Lower Primary & Lower Primary Students
Frequently, my students ask to work together on a project, and if it is feasible for my goals, I allow it. As a teacher, I want my students work to come from them, not me. Many times, collaborative work occurs somewhat spontaneously, as with these Grade 1 students. I encouraged them to explore it to the end.
Lower & Upper Primary Students
Kindergarten and Grade 5 students collaborated on a Stop-Animation project. KG students created Self-Portraits, which were blown up to life-size, mounted on foam core, and painted. They were then used as characters in a movie created by Grade 5 students. The KG students wrote the script and designed the other props necessary for the film, as guided by the Grade 5 students.
Primary & Secondary Students
Grade 3 and Grade 10 students worked together to help develop the Grade 3 student-written curriculum. Grade 3 students had to design their own projects-choose what they wanted to learn, which materials they wanted to use, and how they were going to learn it-with the help of the internet, their peers, and of course myself.
Grade 5: Mural collaboration with Grade 8 students,  on the theme of Unity and Diversity.

Learning Intentions:
We are learning to….collaborate effectively with older students to create a painted mural on the theme of “Unity & Diversity.”

Success Criteria:
I can...brainstorm appropriate ideas about what Unity & Diversity mean to IST students and share them with my classmates.
I can...contribute ideas on how to create a powerful composition.
I can...paint neatly and carefully, thinking about color choice and how the color ‘works’ with the entire mural.
